Our trip to The Pagoda Chinese Cultural Centre and Liverpool Chinatown

Date: 12th Feb 2016 @ 2:16pm

On Wednesday 3rd February Class 1 and Class 2 travelled to Liverpool to learn lots more about chinese culture and Chinese New Year.

Upon arriving at the centre we recieved a warm welcone from Kelly and Mrs Li who introduced us to the centre and taught us some chinese language. We also listened to traditional chinese harp music.

Mrs Li (dance and tai chi teacher) demonstrated a traditional chinese new year dance and surprised us when she dressed Mrs Middleton in traditional chinese dress. Next it was time to try some chinese dancing of our own. We used flags, fans and a lion to create a fantastic celebration dance for chinese new year.

We also enjoyed taking part in craft activities. Kelly helped us to make origami butterflies and chinese new year cards.

After lunch we met Zi Lan Liao the director of the centre who took us for a walk around Chinatown. We looked at the buildings, the streets and all of the significant decoration on the impressive gates. Zi Lan Liao told us some traditional stories which helped us to understand the meanings behind the animals on the gate and the different animals which make up the chinese dragon. Miss Hannon and Mrs Witter crossed the busy road to get some goodies for us to take back to school from the chinese supermarket.

After an exciting day we spent some time playing at the park in Chinatown. Finally we headed home on the bus back to school, what a fantastic trip!

Take a look at the photos on this page to see us in action!
