Visit to Chester zoo

Date: 3rd Mar 2018 @ 6:27pm

What a cold, icy but enjoyable day we had at Chester zoo on Monday 12th February.

Our first visit was to the meerkats but on the way we spotted the rhinos, everyone was so excited by the baby rhino. The children were so excited to see the meerkats in real life, there were only 2 out in the enclosure but we saw them doing all the things were had read about and even saw one climb up a big mound.

The children had planned the route for the morning based on the animals they wanted to see so we then set off with the map to find them. Unfortunately there was no sign of the painted dogs in the enclosure but we did spot the zebras. The monkeys were very active and the children found it funny watching them swing around and playing.

We took a slight detour to see the lion as we could hear him roaring from the other side of the zoo.

After a picnic lunch outside and a much needed rest it was off to our activity session and a chance to warm up inside. After discussing different characteristics of animals we set off exploring. We measured ourselves against a snake skin, touched bones and the skin of a cheetah and even smelt jaguar and badger wee- disgusting!!!!

Our last stop was the elephants as they were inside and we didn’t want to miss them, especially as we got to see a young elephant playing with popcorn- tipping it on its head with its trunk.

The children were incredibly well behaved as the zoo was very busy. Well done class 1
