Visit to the Wirral Tramway and transport museum

Date: 9th Nov 2016 @ 8:24pm

Despite getting a little wet and cold we had a truly amazing day today. The children were a little bit excited this morning to say the least as we set off on our first mode of transport- the coach. We saw lots on the way, cars, motorbikes, Lorries, vans and even the ferry we had hoped to go on in the repair docks before arriving at the museum.

The first adventure was to get straight onto a tram and go for a ride down to the Woodside ferry terminal and back. The children absolutely loved it, class 2 rode on the top and class 1 on the bottom.

Next it was a visit onto lots of different trams learning all about the bell, the way the seats changed direction and about the trolley. The children listened incredibly well and did a super job on the steep steps.

We then swapped with class 2 and went off to see trams that were being repaired and rebuilt, old cars, motorbikes and the model railway. That was a definite favorite with the children having to be dragged to go see more. We visited the old buses before having lunch. It's the first time I've sat on the top deck of a tram to eat lunch with the class.

We were lucky enough to stay on the top for a ride back to the ferry terminal to meet the coach.

Once we were back on the coach it was a drive through the Kingsway tunnel (very exciting and a bit dark) to the Albert Dock in Liverpool.

We got a bit wet as we walked from the dock to pier head looking at the different boats and Birkenhead from the other side of the river Mersey.

It was a great day and we had some very tired children on the way home, a few even had a little nap!
